Pages are taking forever to load, often times they are timed out. _________________

Seconded. DDR Freak has been really slow for a long time (at least over a year) and it's pretty normal that you have to wait over 30 seconds before the page loads. I'm sure lot of people agree that it is very annoying and it surely makes reading this site less fascinating. At least myself I think sometimes "ok I'm gonna read some threads from ddr freak" and then I open the browser and after 20 seconds of blank page I remember why I never read anything else here than the ITG accomplishment read and then close the tab and go to some another page where I actually can use most of my time by reading it instead of waiting it.
So I have two questions, can we expect any improvements for this problem and does any admin even read these threads (seeing how Dave's post was ignored). |

I really haven't experienced that problem... are you talking about particular pages or in general? Is it at a particular time? Does it happen consistently? I agree DDR Freak is slow, but page times are generally 5-6 seconds, and the server is hardly loaded. _________________

It's no particular place or time, my browser will often say "loading" for extended amounts of time (it will always vary). Sometimes it even times out. _________________

Yea I agree with Dave. Sometimes it just won't download anything and refreshing the page won't help (other sites work well, it's not my connection). Sometimes it is better but there really isn't any specific time when it is better or worse.
I also wonder what causes the slowness if the server is hardly loaded at all. |

So... is this thing going to be investigated any deeper?

I don't really have problems with the speed of the website, but I've been experiencing the errors occasionally for some time now, more than a few months. It's not an issue for me because you can just F5 the page and it will load, but it's definitely there.

It took almost 10 minutes to load 2 threads and open this reply box. And I did it tabbed so that they loaded at the same time. During that I also got this:
Quote: | Template->make_filename(): Error - file ./templates/subSilver/bbcode.tpl does not exist |
The last week has been completely horrible and the page load times has been incredibly long if they load at all. |

Next time note the time of day that you get the errors and post back. I'm curious. Thanks. _________________

Edit: Double-post because the page didn't seem to load after a minute of waiting. It's fun how even editing own post takes ~25 seconds to load when the site is working normally.

Got them yesterday just before I posted into this thread and got them again approx. 10 minutes before I posted this reply. Had to wait over 5 minutes because DDR Freak refused to load any page (yes I tried refreshing and several threads and everything), then it started working "normally" aka every page loads 10 - 30 seconds (which is still a horrible performance). |

Okay doesn't seem to have much of a pattern. I wonder if it's a network thing.
Can you do a "tracert ddrfreak.com" when it's running fast, and run it again when it's taking forever to load? _________________

This is when it's running "fine", going to repost tracert again when the problems occur:

I just got it (so what is that, 11:00 AM EST on a Sunday?)
It seems to be an "East Coast has trouble connecting to the West Coast" problem... but it honestly seems more like whatever host this site is running is just set up crappily.
Random "I suddenly can't find/interpret select PHP files anymore" reeks of "the rack server is held together with bailing wire and duct tape and the site is hosted on Apache 1 with php4 and already has 3 dead hard drives". Soooo, I am not sure how ddrfreak is hosted or whether it got moved to some new outfit a couple of months ago or whether it's run out of somebodies basement... but perhaps it is time to try something new... _________________

I too often experience slow loading times, anything from 30 seconds to more than a few minutes.
I'm on at a time when there's very few others online, if any at all, but still the long loads persist.
Compared to other sites, I'm afraid to say this one's a bit of a snail.
Taking a tracert gives me these times
1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms
2 30 ms 29 ms 30 ms
3 20 ms 20 ms 20 ms
97]
4 20 ms 19 ms 19 ms
161]
5 21 ms 20 ms 20 ms
45.73]
6 21 ms 20 ms 68 ms
45]
7 281 ms 286 ms 281 ms
8 203 ms 203 ms 206 ms
192.233]
9 302 ms 288 ms 291 ms
.109]
10 296 ms 297 ms 297 ms
et [72.52.66.22]
11 204 ms 204 ms 204 ms
But the tracert finishes alot faster than the pages i'm trying to load do. |
