i bought one a while back, don't do as i did.
the pad has horrible construction (some screws just screw into the metal for no appearant reason)
the arrows compress quite a ways and the brackets will catch your feet which really hurts if you aren't wearing shoes
the pad is also more noisy than an arcade machine
save another 100 bucks and buy a CF |

These pads have performed well for the two and a half years that I've had them. I've now saved up enough money for two cobalt flux pads and they're being shipped, so first of all, if you have the money, buy those cause the majority of DDR players will say CFs are the best pads. That being said, the MyMyBox Pads have held their own. Maxx Unlimited has been passed on these pads, so there's nothing to question about their responsiveness when everything's running smoothly. The buttons are solid. Much better than those metal $50ish pads where the buttons feel like you're stepping on peanut butter, or even the ignition pads. Yes, my Pads had to be modded to get the best performance out of them. First of all, the bottoms of these pads have rubber feet which are similar to the rubber ends you find on the larger ends of pool sticks. I'd say you'd get better performance if there were more rubber feet on the bottom, but my solution since I didn't feel like drilling in the pad was to mount them on plywood. The pad is essentially 9 separate parts screwed together. I'd say the developers of this pad should used larger thread screws than the electronic screws they used to put it together. Since the pad is 9 separate parts, there is some give in the pads, resulting in a creaking sound which means that the screws need to be tightened periodically or else they will fall out and you'll lose parts. To solve this problem, I bolted each of my pads to half inch thick plywood replacing the corner screws with much longer wood screws to keep the pad on the plywood. This kept the 9 separate parts from having as much give and I hardly ever had to tighten the screws after that. When the MyMyBox pads came in, I had to use duct tape to tape all of the wires running underneath the pad so the rubber feet wouldn't catch on them and cause bad stuff to happen, but that's really a minor issue that has a simple solution - duct tape. The other issue I've had with these pads is the connecting wire. It connects to the pad in the back right corner and really isn't long enough if you want to play a distance from the playstation/xbox/computer so I've had to use extension cords. The other issue is that the wire isn't thick enough so after some use of the pads, I've had to replace them. It's really hard to find an adapter from a serial port to a playstation controller and I had to end up buying replacement parts from the Ebay retailer I bought them from. And if that's not enough, after about 6 months, the buttons cracked and I had to order replacements. While I'm thinking of the buttons, I'd say there's a give in these pads which feels like half an inch but in reality is probably a quarter of an inch. It didn't really affect the timing of the gameplay, but it's a different feel from the arcade. And also, to keep the pad from slipping around after I mounted them on plywood, I bought some carpet gripper and attached it using a staple gun to the very bottom. After all of that, the pad performs well. I know this sounds like alot of work for the pad, but I would say it's better than paying the $150 extra per pad for a Cobalt Flux if money is an issue. But then, I suppose if money really isn't an issue then you'd just buy a DDR Machine and load Stepmania on it. For all people in the real world where money is always a limiting factor, I'd say a modded MyMyBox pad is a good value. Don't pay $200 for each pad though. I found two on Ebay for $324 including shipping. So first thing to do once you get these pads is tighten all screws, duct tape all wires underneath the pad, cut out two half inch 3 x 3 pieces of plywood and use 1 1/2 inch wood screws to mount the pads. After that, carpet gripper on bottom and buy extension cords. I'd also tape the area where the wire exits the pad just so when the wire gets caught, the force will be focused on the tape and not the serial port where the wire connects. Don't get me wrong with all of these mods. Keep in mind that these changes have been over the course of 2 and a half years and just about everything needs maintenence with use whether it be cars, computers, good relationships, and DDR pads. In the reasonable world, I'd pay $75 for these pads, but I was happy finding them for $150 each, though some may argue that I shouldn't be. My Cobalt Flux pads are on the way and I probably paid too much for those also, but I will be a happy consumer so long as they do what they're supposed to do. Yes, I would recommend these pads to the intermediate DDR player looking to make the serious jump from 6 footers to 9+ footers who has a part time job and some money to spare after gas/food/cell phone/girlfriend/church and such. I hope I didn't scare too many people away with all the mods I talked about but I truly enjoy these pads after everything was modded. Hope that helps. |

Does this look like it's a MyMyBox pad? It doesn't have a brand on it and I got it off of ebay.

No, that's a RedOctane ripoff. Notice the bar at the bottom. _________________

Thanks for the reply in the actual RedOctane pad thread. I put it in here also to cover my bases.
That's almost a pun... |
