This is a cult and we are all CULT members. We basically all do the same things, listen to the same minute-and-a-half to two minute songs, go to the same places and gather in large and small numbers for one reason;
D-D-R
My friend brought this up to me that DDR is a cult and it really seemed true. I know friends who play DDR have stepmania and good home pads so they aren't forced to pay to play the same songs if they played at home, but they still go to TCF or FZ and spend money. and why is that? Its because we are all cult members who gather for one reason and sometimes make long 45 minute trips just to play for a few hours and waste more money on gas than on gameplay.

Wtf? I never thought of this place as a cult. It's more like a huge community of people with the same interest which is DDR.

I understand where you're coming from, but a cult does what they're told without thinking for themselves, and they separate themselves from other people. DDR players usually enjoy being around other people, especially to show off their skills. And they think for themselves, they only pick the songs they want to do.

when i said place, i meant the place in reality where you go to play DDR. and i didn't make this thread to say that this is a negative thing, but a positive thing.

Isn't that like saying that, say, sports teams, are a cult because they share the same interests and get together and play a lot and go on long trips to compete?

Well, according to Webster, a cult is defined as "Obsessive, especially faddish, devotion to or veneration for a person, principle, or thing"

Sure sounds like they're talking about us E4.gif

ponder.gif Never thought about it that way. If this was a cult, wouldn't we have to die?

No, this is something you do when you want to have fun and make friends.

This doesn't seem like a cult cult, but it is definitely a cult. Again, not Jim Jones Cult of Sodoomy, more like "cult" film, or Star Trek (Okay, now that is a death-cult, but that's not the point.) DDR is many things beyond just a cult sensation. It's a community, a way to keep the Demon Fatticus off your buttocks, and most importantly, if you go over to Norway, it's a sport. So, refer to it ,if you will, as culture.
(With your logic of "cult," per se, all major sports are cults. Hmm!)
