Do your arrow keys work in other programs? _________________

Try hitting the other keys on your keyboard. You might have configured them to something else. _________________

You download them, many sites can be found in the Get your DWIs here thread.
Then you put a directory in the songs folder, and then the song folder in that folder. _________________

OpenGL hardware acceleration is not available on your system.
StepMania requires OpenGL hardware acceleration.
Please install the latest video driver from your graphics card vendor to enable OpenGL hardware acceleration.
DO NOT FILE THIS ERROR AS A BUG!
(Advanced: To allow use of the software renderer, set 'AllowSoftwareRenderer=1' in StepMania.ini)
Does anyone know how to fix this? |
I'm having the same problem.. anybody know how to help? |
Going back a few pages.. I TOO am having this problem. If anybody knows how to help, I would appreciate it greatly. |

Ok, does anybody know how you can make a Course for DWI, that cycles through all your ONe footers, once that's done goes to your two footers..then etc etc...you get my drift? i've tried making it and accidently made a course that makes the first song a random 1 footer, second song a random two footer, but that is not what i want, can anybody help? _________________

Two people have listed the OpenGL error with the stepmania CVS. I also had this error message.
I did what the error message said. I downloaded the latest video card driver for my video card. Once I did that the CVS worked fine.
Your best bet would be to go to the website for your video card and check out the drivers to see if you have the newest one. |

I am not too familiar with making courses however I think after you make the random tag, there is another tag you say how many of those songs are random. Then you go to the next tag and do it again. I don't remember the syntax. _________________

All of this is with respect to current CVS snapshots:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=37892
Quote: | Themes go into the Skins/Themes folder, as their own folder containing image files for the theme. You can selecte the Theme in the Appearance options. |
This is DWI-specific. StepMania themes and note skins (SMZIPs) can be installed using SMPackage, which comes with the program.
Quote: | Put the course (.crs and .png) into the Course folder (located in the root). |
Nitpick: "Courses", not "Course".
Quote: | #SONG:(subfolder where the songs are located)\(song title NOT DWI FOLDER NAME):(Difficulty):(modifiers); |
StepMania accepts either the song title or the directory name.
Quote: | Stepmania is very demanding, performance wise. You'll probably need 600mHz processor at least with 256ram and a good video card to back you up. The best thing otherwise is to get the latest version of DirectX at www.microsoft.com. |
StepMania only takes about 20-40 megs of memory itself, so I think it should run on a 128-meg system. That's not too well tested, of course. I don't think it should need a 600mhz system. The docs say "266", but that's not well-tested, either--but a 450 should do just fine. (You'll need more than that if you want to play background AVIs, though.)
The key is that you need a reasonable video card. People have trouble with ancient cards, like S3s and Voodoos. Grab a Geforce off Ebay for $20 if you have something that old.
You're better off with Ogg. Better compression, more robust, and well-supported, at least on PCs.
Quote: | The catch is, that Stepmania has a stupid bug that makes it convert dwi freezes incorrectly, and they come instead as you see them. |
Had. This was fixed many months ago. Unfortunately, our release cycle is painfully slow at the moment, since we're all rather busy. Pick up a recent CVS snapshot.
Sama-Man wrote: | ok now i got a quest for all of you. i have specific videos to go along with songs, and i have them sitting in the same folder as the mp3 and the dwi. according to the readme for stepmania, it should work. but in the dwi coding it has it as M:Movie:. \movies\<insert file name here>.avi LAYER:0;
|
This was a bug in SM 3.0. Grab a snapshot at the above link.
Quote: | I am aware of the editor, though I haven't used it. I think that editor will only create a SM file for Stepmania only. |
The SM editor writes DWIs, too.
That project has no relation to the SM team; all official StepMania skins will be released in the StepMania project directly. |

That's a good update for what was done with Stepmania CVS (which I now actively use).
I will link to your post in the first post but I will not change it. _________________

What perfect/great/etc timings should I use for DWI if i want it as close to the arcade as possible? The default ones are way too friendly, so I made mine a bit stricter, but i still have no idea what would be arcade-true. _________________
